Wow, this place was outstanding. Beautiful decor, friendly and attentive service, great location, and amazing food and drinks. It was PACKED when we got there and it was a 30min wait for two people. But ended up taking less time. I got the chicken panang and it was honestly the best I've ever had. My friend got the soft shell crab and she also enjoyed it! Love all the different and beautiful drinks and desserts. Gotta love a place that has a great aesthetic and the food is still good. Our ONLY issue is that on our way out, near the bar and the kitchen entrance, the floors were wet and slippery with no sign and my friend slipped hard but luckily didn't fall. I'll be back next weekend to take my friends who will be visiting for my birthday!
They don't miss! Hello and welcome to Don Khao Thai eatery in Columbia. I've recently learned they are part of the Pattana Restaurant Group operating in Virginia and Maryland. The Maryland restaurants are Sense of Thai, Thai of Laurel, Thai of Silver Spring, Dok Khao (Chevy Chase), and Thai of Waugh Chapel. That's great news if you love their Thai food because you have opportunities to experience the food at multiple locations. For a place that's always crowded, Dok Khao understands utilizing all the available table space. The wait doesn't feel as long in the Merriweather plaza which is very welcoming hosting a great mixture of residents and visitors. I really cannot get enough of the food here. Very flavorful, fresh, and precision made. The fried rice was not oily, had the right seasoning, and didn't leave you sluggish after eating such a generous portion of food. I really like the bok choy, carrot slices, Thai basil, and fresh tomato because it balances the dish well between acidic and savory. The purple rain cocktail was crafted beautifully and was refreshing. Lastly, the healthy rolls with the sweet peanut sauce very refreshing. The raw vegetable ingredients compliments one another and the presentation for the table is nice. For my second in restaurant experience they did not disappoint. Overall 4.8 of 5
I wish I could give this place 6 stars... Y'all... this place. This PLAAAAAAAAACE. It was a homerun on every level. First off, the interior is BEAUTIFUL! I was not expecting to walk into a floral-toned garden of plants and parasols. Second, the service. Hot dayum. I was with a party of 8 during a packed weekday lunch hour. We were seated immediately, had our orders taken quickly, and everyone's meals were out within 10-15 minutes. And of course, the star of the show: the food. It was tasty af! I got the panang curry and left that bowl CLEAN. TL;DR - This place was awesome and as far as I know, has been for a while. A close friend recommended this place to me over a year ago and he *rarely* mentions restaurants. It's a good bet it'll continue to be awesome. But you never know. Get there while the gettin's good.
They already get major points with simply how it looks inside. It transport you somewhere else. I loved the green! We came during dinner time without any reservations and were luckily able to get a booth. Our waiter was nice, but he also had a lot of tables! Everything we ate was good, was it like omg best Thai food ever? No but does it hit the spot - YES. Even if the food is 7/8, the drinks were a 10. Also I love places that go with themes, this was the drink for Valentine's Day. The desserts are also worth trying. We loved the Thai crème brûlée and rice pudding It's located in the Merriweather Pavilion- so lots of other restaurants around. Maybe a nice place for a casual date or dinner after work vibe.
It's such a treat every time we come here. Service is exceptional, decor is whimsical and beautiful, and there are some DELICIOUS dishes on the menu. Just like anywhere, food can be hit or miss but the hits are outstanding and really it just comes down to personal flavor preferences. The only downside is the incredibly long wait time and you're not able to make reservations at peak times. But there's plenty of places to hang out in the area while you wait.
Believe the buzz, folks! This hotspot deserves every bit of its packed-house reputation! We thought we were being clever hitting this place on a Tuesday to dodge the weekend warriors--plot twist: it was STILL packed to the rafters! While we snagged seats immediately (score!), be warned: you'll be getting cozy with neighboring diners in the tight-quarters seating arrangement. But let me tell you--once those dishes arrived, personal space became the LAST thing on my mind! The kitchen works magic at lightning speed, delivering flavor bombs that had us planning our return visit before we even paid the bill! Our winning combo: * Jacketed Shrimp (worth fighting over) * Siam Chicken (life-changing) * Red Curry with pork (spice heaven!) Wash it all down with a zingy Spicy Daisy or keep it classic with their perfectly chilled Pinot Grigio. Only wish? Reservations would be a game-changer for this perpetually packed paradise! Until then, embrace the wait--I promise every bite is worth it!

This place is great! Surprised my kid by treating her to a pre-birthday, birthday dinner! We got the vegetable Pad Si Ew and the Sweet and Sour Chicken dish (this came with white rice on the side). I came here on recommendations from others for the food, atmosphere, and sparklers for the birthday dessert. You have to buy the dessert! The food was fresh, flavorful, and one of the better Pad Si Ew's I have had. This place was very busy, even for early dinner on a random Sunday, every table was filled! I suggest you call ahead to make a reservation. Decor is kitschy and fun! This place is dry loud because of the full dining room.
The interior/decor is so cute and the food is fantastic! As someone who grew up in Thailand, good Thai food has always been a struggle to find so I'm glad I found a place nearby to get my Thai fix. We went around 2pm on a Sunday and it was extremely packed with people lining outside the door after we were seated. Service was still pretty good (felt a little rushed) and food came out quickly. Appetizer: Nam tok (beef with sticky rice)- was sooo good! Definitely my favorite dish I had here Mains: lychee duck curry- flavor was really good! Dok khao pad thai- a little too sweet for my liking but still tasty! Dessert: sweet rice with Thai custard- sooo good!
Wow- I wish I lived here in the DC area because this Thai is so delicious!! We came on a Sunday at 1pm and it was jammed packed. (They told us it would only be a 10-15 mins wait but it took actually around 30-35 mins...). But anyway, once we were seated we ordered and got our appetizer pretty quickly. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken (spicy) and wow, it was spicy! I like spice so I was happy with it but might just get medium spice next time if I don't want too much;). The noodles are nice and thick plus they give a good amount of chicken with the dish. We had plenty of leftovers. My sister really enjoys the Pad Thai (comes out not spicy which is the way she likes it). We also got a couple desserts- the mango sticky rice is perfect because it's not over the top sweet but just the right amount. Our friend got the Thai Tea Crème Brûlée which is quite innovative and was also very good. The ambience is very instagram-y (which is why I was worried the food might not be great) but I was so happy to be in a beautiful atmosphere WITH good food. Note this restaurant is SO LOUD tho since it's so busy. I really enjoyed it and will definitely come back when in town!
